Bean There? All Fired Up After Covid19

Bob From Fired Up BBQ and Burgers Engadine

This is the podcast that brings together 39 local Engadine businesses and their owners and is proudly supported by The Local Business Awards and Shire Foodies. You can listen to the episode here or wherever you listen to your podcasts via the, iTunes, Google Podcasts or Spotify platforms.

The Bean There? Podcast team streamed live for the second week in a row on the PodBean Platform from Fired Up BBQ in Kingswood Road, Engadine.

Hosts Amanda and Jay presented updates on News, Weather Arts and Entertainment and 7 year old Dylan gave her first Sports report and interviews Dave Henson, President of the Engadine Dragons Football Club

Owner of Fired Up BBQ and Burgers Cafe, Bob Slattery shared how over the last 18 months he has merged the previous business known as 2 Guys Burgers with his American Style BBQ catering business.

What started out as a hobby and a pop up at Brewery’s, Sports Days and local events with a full size wood fire smoker cooking brisket, pork belly and ribs for 12 hours has become a favourite to many of the 2,209 followers on his Facebook page.  One customer said, ‘Tried this place. OMG Delicious.  The chicken was juicy and crispy all at the same time, We’ll be back.’  This is why Fired Up BBQ is nominated as a finalist in the Local Business Awards.

Our host Amanda is a local resident and business owner and her favourite is the Beef Burger. It comes with a special BBQ sauce made on site that you can buy by the bottle. She said she was also partial to the chips and onion rings.

Bob shared how on 14 May 2020 he was in Melbourne at the Meat Stock and Music Festival with over $13,000 worth of meat when the lock down took effect.  Listen to the Podcast Interview in which Bob is humbled by the support of his community.

With mass gatherings banned, the cool room in Bob’s trailer was full of meat ands  mind was racing.

“After dropping my bundle for an hour, it was just one foot in front of the other” says Bob.

“The first thing I did was sell a whole bunch of meat to some Melbourne stores.”

“It killed my mobile business overnight.”

Bob pivoted quickly and turned to local designer and our host Amanda from Daydream Creative to rebrand and focus on the shop front services.  “The neighbourhood has adopted us as their local coffee shop and with a new coffee machine, local coffee roaster and supplier @threepenceroasters from Caringbah then connected barrister, Kirsten to Bob.

Wednesday night the kids eat free and Fired Up BBQ and Burgers do their own deliveries and have an online order system as well as the old fashion order over the phone.

Bob took part in the Sutherland Shire Open 4 Business Project by Sophie B Photography and stepped out from behind his grill and is now looking forward to the South Coast Food and Wine Festival. FRI, OCT 16  & 17 White Sands Park, Huskisson

If you would like to know more about American BBQing – Bob has a BBQ class but will sit down for a coffee and a chat whenever you drop in.   Bob’s enjoying his first weekend off since September this weekend, well deserved.   CALL BOB ON – 0419 610 53
